Nourish: Plant Based Eating in Bath.
Back in January, Bounce and As Nature Intended challenged me to go vegan for 7 days as part of Veganuary. And, well seeings as this post is going live and it’s now March… I think it’s safe to say this new lifestyle I’ve adopted is sticking around.
I may not be 100% vegan (I’m more of a veggie) but, some of my friends are really sticking with it and actually enjoying it. It definitely gave me the push to be more creative and inventive in the kitchen which in turn, made me re-find my love for homecoming and home foods.
My friend and I decided that for V-Day, we’d wander down London Road to discover what delicious vegan and vegetarian options Nourish had to offer!
Previously home to the Beaufort, this newly refurbished restaurant is the brainchild of Robbie Tack, who has established a mouth-watering menu of entirely vegan and vegetarian cuisine.
We had a table booked for 12pm and in very timely fashion, 12:01pm to be exact, we arrived and were promptly seated.
A bright, colourful, decorative dining area with contemporary artwork set the scene for what was sure to be an exciting lunch. Entirely vegan and vegetarian, I was absolutely ravenous so couldn’t wait to see the menu!
We started with a side of toasted sourdough and vegan butter shortly followed by a generous serving of Onion Pakoras with Tamarind sauce to share.
The pakoras were coated in a light fluffy batter; perfectly seasoned and garnished with pomegranate seeds and coriander. The mango chutney was also a delicious addition.
Our palettes suitably teased, we hastily ordered our main course. Bella opted for the Seitan Burger with Hand Cut Chips whereas I picked the Trio of Tacos.
Seitan (pronouced ‘say-tan’), if you’re not familiar, is a really popular vegan substitute for meat. It has a relatively neutral taste so can very easily take on flavours of other sauces and seasonings.
The texture is quite dense making it much closer and more convincing as a meat substitute in comparison tofu or tempeh. You’ve got to try it! I was super impressed with it, and would love to know what you think of it!!
I sampled all colours of the rainbow with my tacos. BBQ Jackfruit, Coconut Crumbed Tofu with Mango Salsa and lastly, Black Bean with Coconut Yoghurt and Avocado. In one meal, I could happily tick off my five a day! The portions were also generous which is always appreciated!!
Next up, dessert of course. We shared the dark chocolate vegan torte with salted caramel honeycomb. Anything salted caramel and I’m in!
It proves that being vegan or vegetarian for that matter, doesn’t mean bland boring foods.
